Citizen Maths is a free, open online mathematics course for adults originally funded by the Ufi Charitable Trust.

It is aimed at people who want to improve their grasp of maths, and become more confident in using maths at work and in life, dealing with practical problems like using spreadsheets, judging amounts or assessing odds. The course is at ‘Level 2’ – the level that a 16-year-old school leaver is expected to achieve in maths.

The course is designed using short video lessons, demos as well as online apps and quizzes.

The Design Guide shares the projects design principles and techniques used to put them into practice, providing a step-by-step guide to setting up a project of this kind – from policy and vision, through to practical guidance on materials development, as well as including the decisions and hurdles the team overcame in creating and running Citizen Maths.

The aim of the Guide is to provide a resource that will be useful for teams who are developing online education initiatives.
